Last month, 2K Games revealed the first-ever free Dark Matter card as the reward for reaching level 40 of the current season in MyTeam, marking the first time a card of this rarity became obtainable for free. While the newest addition to the collection is only available by opening packs, gamers are racing to the NBA 2K22 marketplace to try and pick it up.

After a 60-point performance on Monday night, Karl-Anthony Towns’ efforts gave the Minnesota Timberwolves a wild 149-139 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. NBA 2K22 recognized this amazing performance and honored it wonderfully with a Dark Matter upgrade reveal on Twitter. His Dynamic Ratings card is now available in Maxed Out Two, NBA 75th 60s/70s, and Dynamic Ratings League Packs, but make no mistake about it that his card will also be a hot commodity in the online marketplace. Originally a Dynamics Ratings card, the boost to the new rank also brings his overall rating up to 99.
The constant flow of content hitting NBA 2K22 has not only kept interest in the game but the amount of revenue it makes as well, thanks in large part to their MyTeam mode. It doesn’t go without criticism, however, as TakeTwo Interactive is currently undergoing a lawsuit that was filed due to the nature of its microtransactions. Still, 2K Games isn’t hesitating to unveil more content within its online marketplace, and fans of the game continue to pour in and play the game in an attempt to obtain the special units. If players don’t get ahold of the new Karl-Anthony Towns card in a pack, they can buy it directly from a seller for a high price.
For players interested in this specific unit, it may be a good idea to purchase the card directly from the Auctions section, as the average price is 50K MT, and the lowest price going for 35K MT. This is mostly due to the Dynamic Ratings cards constantly fluctuating and could fall from a Dark Matter to a Pink Diamond card in the next update, depending on how Towns performs in the next couple of games.
