In a recent tweet posted by Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, the game developer expressed his approval of the movie adaptation’s new director. Druckmann revealed that he is a huge fan of Trachtenberg and is excited to see what the director plans to do for the movie adaptation.

It seems that Sony has struck the right chord by appointing Trachtenberg as director, especially after the fact that Naughty Dog wasn’t always supportive of the direction the film took in the past. Back in February of 2017, Druckmann posted a tweet debunking a claim made by Joe Carnahan (the project’s screenwriter), saying that the gaming studio has no involvement in the creation of the movie.

Trachtenberg caught the attention of Sony Pictures after the release of his breakout movie, 10 Cloverfield Lane. After scheduling conflicts with Uncharted’s former director Shawn Levy, Sony took the opportunity and asked Trachtenberg to take the helm of the project, which has been in development hell for several years now. Although Naughty Dog seemed to be pleased with the Uncharted movie’s new director, it is unclear whether the new production under Trachtenberg will plan to involve the game studio in the creation of the movie adaptation.

As for who will star the leading role of Nathan Drake, the film’s IMDB page still listed Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Tom Holland as the lead character, confirming that the production under Trachtenberg retained the young actor. Holland was confirmed to play Nathan Drake back when Shawn Levy sat at the director’s chair.

While Holland’s casting would bring a younger and fresher perspective at the movie adaptation, some fans still hoped that actor Nathan Fillion, who previously starred as Nathan Drake in a short fan-made film, would be chosen to play the famous treasure hunter. Lastly, there is still no confirmation on when Uncharted will begin filming. As of the moment, Holland is scheduled to embark on a promotional tour for his upcoming movie, Avengers: Endgame, which will hit theaters on April 26.

The Uncharted movie has yet to release an official release date.
