The incredible sales of the remastered version of The Last of Us proved that PS4 players didn’t mind buying previous-gen games and Sony expects to see similar sales from the Nathan Drake Collection. It may be hard to imagine that that majority if PS4 owners somehow skipped over the most popular exclusive franchise on the PS3, but according to Sony’s research, around 80% of PS4 owners have never played a single game in the Uncharted franchise.

Considering the incredible sales that the PS4 has put up over the last two years, it is no surprise that the Sony family has a lot of new faces. For the most part, revisiting old games isn’t exactly how current-gen gamers want to spend their time, but with a franchise as iconic as Uncharted, it definitely makes sense that gamers would want to experience some of the older installments before diving into Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Microsoft’s similar attempt to cash in on a rerelease of its most iconic exclusive franchise turned into a bit of a train wreck when The Master Chief Collection’s online component was barely functional for months after its launch. By the time the servers were working properly, the hype had died down and many consumers were too frustrated or annoyed to revisit the game. The Uncharted bundle is able to dodge that bullet by putting all of the focus on the series’ single player campaigns.
There’s no doubt that new PlayStation owners will want to explore Drake’s adventures, but we’re curious how many longtime fans will be interested in this collection. A big selling point of revisiting the Halo franchise was the possibility of sinking hundreds of hours into the game’s classic multiplayer modes, but for Uncharted most of the focus will be on revisiting the story. Upcoming sales data should help reveal how many gamers care enough about revisiting these games to drop another $60 on the franchise.
